Volvo reports new global sales record for 2023

The highest sales record yet clearly demonstrates that Volvo offers a strong electrified portfolio, combined with a more stable supply chain.

In addition, Volvo Cars has seen a significant increase in sales of its electrified cars. Last year, it managed to sell 113,419 fully electric cars, an increase of 70% compared to 2022. Plug-in hybrids sold a total of 152,561, up by 10% compared to 2022. Fully electric cars sold during 2023 accounted for a total of 16% of total sales of all Volvo cars in that year.

In December alone, Volvo sold a total of 76,015 cars worldwide, an increase of 5% compared to December of the previous year. In Europe, a total of 294,794 cars were sold during 2023. This is an increase of 19% compared to the year 2022. Volvo's Recharge range with all-electric or plug-in hybrid powertrains accounted for 59% of all cars sold in the region last year.

Even better numbers in the Czech Republic

The Czech market has seen an even bigger percentage increase in sales - up by 31% compared to 2022. Of the 3,195 cars sold, 118 were fully electric (10% increase over 2022) and 498 with plug-in hybrid drive (101% increase over 2022), which is a 74% increase in the number of Volvo Recharge models sold in the domestic market compared to the previous year.

In the U.S., a total of 128,701 vehicles will be sold in 2023, an increase of 26% compared to 2022. Recharge Series vehicles sold here are up 28% year-over-year, and also accounted for 28% of all Volvo vehicles sold in the U.S. during the year. In China, then, sales are up by 5% compared to 2022, meaning that a total of 170,091 cars will be sold in 2023. In the period from January to December, the total sales of Recharge vehicles increased by 26%.

The best-selling model in 2023 was the Volvo XC60, which sold 228,646 units (2022: 195,338), followed by the Volvo XC40, which sold a total of 200,670 units (2022: 169,206), while the Volvo XC90 came in third with a total of 107,549 units sold (2022: 97,130).
