Think of the new Volvo EM90 as a mobile Scandinavian living room

Volvo EM90, which is scheduled to be unveiled on November 12, will save time and nerves. It is a car that is about joy and peace of mind. And about a life well spent. The EM90 is not designed with the goal of providing space to carry more stuff, but more importantly to offer space for living.

The generous cabin width and legroom are just the beginning in its premium interior. A wide range of premium materials, luxurious armchair-style seats with a zero-gravity position, a large panoramic roof that allows you to enjoy the sky above you, and charming Scandinavian-style design details all combine to create a space that makes it a pleasure to enjoy life on the road.

"When designing the EM90, we aimed to create a space that offers users comfort and a stylish driving experience in an elegant environment," said Sophie Li, director of design at Shanghai Design Studio. "When designing the interior of the EM90, we focused on creating a car that serves as well on business trips as it does when travelling with family. It was an exciting task for our entire design team," she added.

Comfortable travel in your own personal space

The Volvo EM90 boasts the most spacious and flexible interior ever to appear in the brand's range. It is a car suitable not only for family but also for travelling on business and it can serve as a personal space for respite from everyday worries and relaxation in a circle of loved ones or just alone, but also as an inspiring environment for work.

This six-seat premium car will offer each of the crew members their own personal space. This includes, but is not limited to, the individual use of entertainment features and comfort settings, which can be controlled via an armrest and elegant touchscreen embedded in FSC-certified wood panel.

Special seats in the style of the second-row seats offer passengers everything they can think of: massage function, individual ventilation and heating, as well as built-in tables and cup holders. In addition, the chairs in the second row of seats are equipped with seat cushions with zero-gravity function, which contributes to their seven-layer structure and thickness of more than 120 mm. They also include high-density cushioning layers that provide both comfort and support. The third row of seats is then easily accessible thanks to sliding rear doors and second row seats that can be moved over a long range.

The panoramic sunroof covering the entire cabin comes with a sun visor and mood lighting for the interior with several settings, contributing to a true Scandinavian atmosphere. From settings simulating the famous aurora borealis to themes evoking the atmosphere of a Swedish forest or a summer solstice dawn, the purpose of this lighting is to evoke a peaceful mood and allow the user to choose their favourite Scandinavian experience.

Sophisticated design inspired by nature

Scandinavian design details are scattered throughout the cabin, from the sophisticated Orrefors crystal gear selector head to the backlit decorative birch wood interior trim that adorns the dashboard, doors and rear of the first row seats. It just goes to show Volvo's designers' ability to combine beautiful materials with technology, which permeates the entire EM90.

The patterns of the upholstery and decorative trim are inspired by Scandinavian nature and Asian art, which work in a thoughtful symbiosis combining modern design and the beauty of the natural world around us. For example, the patterns of the seat upholstery are inspired by mountain ranges shrouded in mist, while the backlit wooden decorative trim reflects the beauty of the rays shining through the bamboo forest.

"In the interior of the EM90, we have combined inspiration from Scandinavian and Asian sources to reflect the natural beauty around us while resonating with the tastes of our customers," said Sophie Li. "Whichever interior the user chooses, they will always be assured that their journeys will take place in a premium, stylish and a pleasantly soothing environment that also reflects Volvo Cars' modern approach to design," she added.

The Volvo EM90 will be introduced for the first time for China, celebrating its debut on 12 November 2023. On this date, ordering systems for China will also open.
