The new all-electric premium MPV EM90 expands Volvo's portfolio to a new segment

The Volvo EM90 demonstrates the brand's strong ability to innovate and respond positively to specific market demands. The multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment has enjoyed considerable popularity over the past few years, especially in many parts of Asia. This is one of the several reasons why the EM90 will be launched first in China, which represents the largest automotive market in the world.

Following the unveiling of the all-electric EX30 small SUV, which has already managed to win several awards, earlier this year Volvo is introducing a second model in quick succession that will expand their product portfolio. Both the EX30 and the EM90 will help Volvo to reach new customer groups and cover a larger part of the global automotive market, with the associated increase in profits.

In addition, the Volvo EM90 reinforces the automaker's commitment to become an all-electric vehicle manufacturer by 2030. This means that over the next few years, Volvo will launch a whole family of new fully electric cars that will provide customers with everything they expect from the Volvo brand, with zero tailpipe emissions.

With this new portfolio, Volvo will not only offer all-electric vehicles as part of its new car sales by 2030, an important part of the company's commitment to sustainability, but will also move further along the path to profitable growth and leadership in sustainable mobility.

"With the EM90, we are entering an exciting new segment of electric MPVs with the heritage and leadership of Volvo Cars," said Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars. "This model allows us to meet a new market demand whose potential we have not yet explored, while at the same time attracting new types of customers to the Volvo brand," he added.

Long tradition in practical solutions

Although the MPV segment is still new to Volvo, when it comes to practical solutions and versatility, this is an area where it feels at home. The truth is that the Volvo Duett, for example, was specially developed as a practical and spacious car as early as 1953, many years before the MPV segment was created.

The Duett, which represents one of the highlights of the brand's rich tradition and celebrates its 70th birthday this year, is still one of the most sought-after models by collectors and fans of the brand. It was a popular family and at the same time company car not only in Scandinavia, but also in the United States. In later years, the Duett became the inspiration for the world-famous station wagon range, and also became an important source of inspiration for designers working on the EM90.

Whether you needed a practical car for your business or you wanted a spacious family car that you could sleep in when camping, the Duett was the ideal solution for a wide range of other requirements. After all, its name implies that it is two cars in one.

A new important segment

The Volvo EM90 represents an important addition to the all-electric family, which will support its position as one of the fastest growing brands in the premium pure electric car segment. Although the MPV segment in China is currently quite small, it is definitely important. Like the Duett, the EM90 premium MPV serves two purposes for customers.

When this car is not being used for family outings, it can also function as an executive executive car, offering a supremely comfortable interior for meetings or business calls. In short, if customers are looking for a safe, spacious, practical and comfortable premium experience, the Volvo EM90 is an exciting new option.

The Volvo EM90 will first be introduced in China, where pre-orders are now available.
